Where the Mountains meet the sea. The Rising Star of Western Visayas

About Tobias Fornier
The Municipality of Tobias Fornier’s historical background commenced during a negotiation for the barter of Aninipay between the Maraynons and the Ati tribe led by Datu Marikudo. This was in the form of a sadok (native nipa hat), a golden basin, and a golden necklace for Maniwantiwan, wife of Datu Marikudo. After the barter, the Atis moved from Aninipay to the inland, while the Maraynons began to clear the land and burned the shanty houses to be free from “Cabuyao” (a skin disease).
Traveling on foot, some Maraynons went to the north while others set off to the south. The Maraynons under the leadership of Dawa and Ohoy reached a thickly forested pristine land, where they decided to reside. In this promising land, they found a gigantic and enchanted tree which provided shelter and later served as their place of worship. The people named the tree DAO after the names of the two endeared leaders, “DA” from Dawa, and “O” from Ohoy. Like the tree, DAO will remind the people of the sturdiness of their leaders.
The town of “Dao,” was officially renamed as “Tobias Fornier” by virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg. 10 of 1978.
