The Provincial Government of Antique through the leadership of Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, with different national and provincial officials and employees, celebrated the “Pista Kang Kagubatan” with the theme: Kagubatan, Tamnan, Protektahan: Kaaraydan Kang Tanan”, held last June 30, 2017 in Camp Fullon, San Fernando,San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

This Celebration is in accordance with the Provincial Ordinance No. 2015 – 109 an ordinance calling for the province-wide celebration of “Pista Kang Kagubatan Day” every last Friday of June and declaring the month of June every year thereafter as “Pista Kang Kagubatan Month” in the Province of Antique which was sponsored by SP member Vincent H. Piccio III, Chairman Committee on Environment Natural Resources and Ecology.

The tree planting activity is the main highlight of the celebration, with the objective of rehabilitating the major watersheds of the province, promote environmental awareness, forest protection and conservation, increase forest cover by at least 5% per year, increase the water yield of the major watersheds, decrease soil erosion, silting and sedimentation, encourage the production of endemic trees species and enhance biological diversity.

The “Pista Kang Kagubatan” is on its third year, first it was done in Igbucagay, Hamtic, second it was simultaneously done throughout the province and now it was held in Camp Fullon due to the fact that Gov. Cadiao wants the 24-hectare area of Camp Fullon be made into a mini-forest and will serve as the ‘lungs’ for the capital town.
