A total of 31 swimmers participated in the 2nd Nogas island channel cross challenge swimming competition held at Nogas Island last May 17, 2017.

According to Atty. Jobert I. Pahilga, the purpose of this activity is to promote Nogas Island as tourism site and to achieve the goal of the Philippine Life Savers Association which is to prevent drowning with zero casualty.

“This is to make people aware of the effects of climate change and to maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty of the Nogas Island,” Pahilga added.

This event was supported by among others the International Life Saving World Water Safety, Philippine Life Saving, Philippine Drowning Prevention Council, Philippine Army Reserve Force (Reservist) and Sibalom Life Savers. This was also attended by SP Errol Santillan, SP Jessielito C. Sumande Sr, Punong Barangay Allain Vincent R. Padohinog and Engr. Bernie L. Salcedo.

The Nogas Island Channel Cross Challenge started in year 2015, and was participated by foreign, national and local swimmers since then..

In a year 2016, the channel cross challenge swimming competition was postponed because of the national and local elections.

This 2017, through the efforts and initiative of the Philippine Life Savers Association together with the local government officials of Nogas Island the activity was continued.

Atty. Pahilga also encouraged all who want to join the channel cross challenge swimming competition next year to register at Philippine Life Savers Association in order to help the prevention of drowning incidents  and to reach the goal of zero casualty in the province of Antique. AMBARCEBAL
