Running for 59 years with 12 provinces and major cities as hosts, Antique won the bid as the 13th province to host the 60th Palarong Pambansa 2017 on April 23-27, 2017.

Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao believed that winning the bid may serve as a precedent for other small provinces to be able to host the Palarong Pambansa. She also expressed that the event will not just be a sports competition but a cultural exchange, and invites neighboring provinces and cities to see and be one with the Province of Antique.

An initial ₱20 million fund was allocated for the repair and rehabilitation of facilities and support to the young Antiqueño athletes. Amid the financial constraints, the province received pledges of support from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) which committed 10,000 mattresses for the event; the Department of Education for the installation of screens to identified billeting quarters and the Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) for shouldering the ₱20 million replacement of the rubberized track oval in the Binirayan Sports Complex.

Support also came from Senator Loren Legarda, Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara and Sen. Franklin Drilon during the bidding process to host the said event.

There will also be economic and tourism benefits, since the province anticipates the arrival of almost 15,000 to 20,000 athletes, officials and other participants coming from the 18 regions of the country.

The province also organized the Antique Palarong Pambansa Organizing Committee with Atty. Arthur Lastimoso, Provincial Legal Officer, as the overall head.
