Storm surge poses serious threat to 23 households at Sitio Baybay in Belison town

Family members of the 23 households who were directly affected by the storm surge in the said community had to skip their regular jobs since July 11, up to this day, to put up sandbags along the shores as a protection against the pounding waves that already eat up a number of coconut trees near their homes.

According to Mr. Errol M. Pagunsan, Executive Assistant II, Mayor’s Office, yesterday, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of the municipality of Belison has already distributed assistance to the affected families.

“Today there are two (2) trucks on standby near the area to rescue the affected residents”, Mr. Pagunsan said.

In an interview, Mayor Darell dela Flor requested the affected families to evacuate and to cooperate with the LGU. He added that personnel from Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and Municipal Disaster Risks and Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) are ready to help and rescue them.

“Sa aton man nga mga mangingisda, likawan naton anay nga mag palawod ay kadya di pa manami ang tiempo”, he added.

Mayor De la Flor also appealed to the Provincial Government to allow the affected families to temporarily occupy the vacant housing units owned by the Municipal government in Brgy. Mojon, Belison./AMB
