The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) turned over the New Fishing Port to the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
The construction of the said fishing port amounted to 40 million pesos.
According to Mr. Custodio Balaowing, OIC/Port Manager of the Iloilo Fish Port Complex, the services of the fishing port is not only for the town of San Jose but also for its neighboring towns in the province of Antique.
Balaowing said that the fishing port will further enhance the livelihood of the fisherfolks, bring business to the commercial fishing boat operators, and improve the fishing industry in the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista.
He also mentioned that the cold storage facilities given by the Department of Agriculture (DA) will possibly be used in the San Jose fish port.

“Expect more business for the next days in the municipality,” he added.
Municipal Mayor, Hon. Elmer C. Untaran, expressed his gratitude to the PFDA and to the people that have been instrumental in bringing more projects to the municipality of San Jose.
Hon. Joel B. Israel, Sr., Punong Barangay of Barangay IV, said that the fishing port will affect the lives of the fisherfolks of his barangay and of the entire municipality.
The ceremony was attended by Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, Hon. Fernando Corvera and Hon. Pio Jessielito Sumande, the staff of the Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office (MEEDO), Sangguniang Bayan Members and Barangay Councils of San Jose, Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Rockclif C. Buling of Philippine Coast Guard, a representative from Patrilla Builders, the contractor in building the fish port, Fisherfolks, and employees from other Local Government Units (LGU’s). PIO - Antique
