San Jose de Buenavista was fortunately chosen to be the seat of the Regional Evacuation Center of Region 6. The said project will be constructed under the direct supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways Region VI (DPWH).

Funded under the 2016 Regular infrastructure budget thru the initiative of Antiqueña Senator Loren Legarda, this project worth Php 35,385,999.77 will cover the construction of the following: accommodation building, office and infirmary building, laundry/drying area, water tank, male and female toilet and bath, a generator room with one generator set. Also included in the design is the construction of a pump room with pump and accessories, drainage system, cistern tank, material recovery facilities (MRF), perimeter fence, walkways and driveway with curb and gutter.

Coordination with various national agencies was made with regards to the design of the project to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Since providing evacuation is one of the DPWH contributions in addressing the increasing needs for improving the resiliency and preparedness of the country regarding disaster response.

The municipality of San Jose de Buenavista, through the leadership of Mayor Elmer C. Untaran, gave his counterpart by readily offering a 3,000 square meter lot owned by the municipality in Barangay San Pedro to be the site of the Regional Evacuation Center.

Finally, the groundbreaking ceremony on July 6 was graced by several dignitaries of the province led by Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, former Governor Sally Z. Perez, Mayor Elmer C. Untaran accompanied by several SB members and DPWH Region 6 – Engr. Randy Osorio, the barangay officials of San Pedro headed by Punong Barangay Teodoro Redano, teachers and students of San Pedro National High School and Assemblyman Segundo Moscoso Memorial School, was in full support to grace the occasion.
