The capital town has rich array of historical and cultural landmarks. The Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park, named after the former governor who was martyred at the very spot with a marker and bronze statue, an obra of national artist Napoleon Abueva, and get to know more about him through his memorabilia at the Museo Antiqueno inside the Old Capitol.

Travel back in time and be impressed with the Spanish architecture through the gates of the ruins of the Lumang Simbahan (old church) built by the Augustinians in Brgy. San Pedro.

The towns’s Tiringbanay Festival showcase the products of farms and sea. For vegetable lovers, a visit to “Farmville” in Brgy. San Pedro, an LGU-owned demo farm for integrated and organic farming, will be worth their while.

San Jose is 97 kilomketer from Iloilo City and 168 kilometers from Caticlan. Tricycles are the main transportation in going around town.
